Sustainability Practices

Our commitment to a healthier planet

Better for you. Better for the planet.

Building healthier communities means caring for more than what's in the bottle. It means being thoughtful about where our ingredients come from, finding ways to reduce waste, and making smarter packaging choices — from the farm to the press to the bottle and beyond.

We're constantly looking for better ways to do things. Here is where that stands today.

The commitment

Wellness should extend beyond you.

Pure Green · Founded 2014 · New York City

01 — Reducing food waste

More of the harvest. Less of the waste.

Great produce doesn't have to look perfect to be good for you. We're committed to using more of what farmers grow — and keeping quality produce out of landfills. That happens in four places.

01

Mindful Sourcing

We source produce that may not meet traditional grocery-store standards because of minor cosmetic imperfections. The fruit is still fresh, nutritious, and delicious — so it deserves a place in your juice, not a landfill.

Bought, not passed over
02

Purposeful Pressing

We get more from every ingredient. Our hydraulic cold-pressing process extracts juice while minimizing unnecessary waste — and what remains after pressing isn't thrown away. Our leftover pulp is repurposed as animal feed.

Less waste. More purpose.
03

Pressure, Not Heat

High Pressure Processing is an all-natural way to preserve cold-pressed juice. It eliminates harmful bacteria while maintaining a higher yield of essential vitamins, minerals and enzymes — and it keeps a bottle fresh for 75 days without ever heating it.

Fresh longer, tossed less
04

Routine Donations

Good products shouldn't go to waste simply because they're approaching their best-by date. Our teams work with local organizations to donate products nearing best-by, putting wholesome food in the hands of people who need it.

Donated, not dumped
Curved carrots, a twisted pepper, bent cucumbers, a forked beet and a lopsided tomato arranged on a white surface
Every one of these would fail a grocery spec on looks. Every one of them presses exactly the same.
1,000,000Pounds of produce saved from going to waste

More than one-third of the fruits and vegetables used in our products have included imperfect produce — fruit that was fresh, nutritious and perfectly good to drink, and that might otherwise have been left in a field or thrown out on the way to a shelf.

Nothing leaves the press unused

One input · three destinations · no landfill

In

Imperfect produce

Up to five pounds of whole fruit and vegetables per 16oz bottle. More than a third of it is produce a grocery buyer would reject on looks alone — a scar, an odd shape, an off-size. Nutritionally identical.

Out

Cold-pressed juice

Extracted by pressure rather than heat, with minimal excess waste, into a fully recyclable PET bottle.

Remaining pulp

The fiber left in the press is repurposed as animal feed rather than sent to landfill.

Product nearing best-by

Still perfectly good to drink, so it goes to local partner organizations through our teams.

And it keeps

High Pressure Processing holds a bottle at 75 days without heat or pasteurization — so far fewer bottles are ever poured out in a warehouse, a cooler, or a fridge at home.

02 — Sourcing with purpose

Good ingredients start with good choices.

We put a high priority on sourcing fresh, responsibly grown ingredients — and on the people who get them to us.

Local first

We look to local growers and purveyors. Local sourcing means fresher ingredients, and it cuts the transportation required to get produce from farm to store.

Partners held to the same standard

Our sustainability efforts extend beyond our own operations. We consider the distributors and vendors we work with carefully, and look for partners whose practices align with our own commitment to responsible business.

03 — Crafting better packaging

Smaller footprint. Smarter materials.

Packaging is an important part of our sustainability journey. For a bottled line it isn't a detail — it's the product you hold.

Better Bottles

Our juice and smoothie bottles are made with PET — the most recycled plastic in the world. It's lightweight, strong, and built to be recycled: a PET bottle can come back as another bottle, or as the fiber in a T-shirt.

Better Boxes

Our shipping boxes are recyclable and designed with more mindful materials, including recyclable liners and reusable ice packs. Because sustainability shouldn't stop when your order leaves our facility.

Why plastic, and not glass

It's the question we're asked most about the bottle, and the answer isn't convenience. Three reasons, in the order they matter.

Energy

Recycling plastic uses much less energy than recycling glass — and PET is the plastic the recycling system is best at actually capturing and reprocessing.

Freight

Plastic is considerably lighter than other bottles, meaning that less fuel is used to manufacture and deliver every bottle.

Process

Our preservation method can only be made possible by using plastic containers. No plastic bottle, no High Pressure Processing — and no 75-day shelf life.

04 — Our impact goes beyond sustainability

Healthier communities. A healthier planet.

Taking care of the planet is one part of a larger mission: building healthier communities around the globe by connecting people with superfoods. That means caring for our guests, our communities, our team, and the planet that provides the ingredients we depend on. At our retail locations, Beam Impact lets guests send a percentage of their purchase to a local organization of their choice.

Nutrition education

FAN 4 Kids

With a mission to educate kids ages 3 to 10 about healthy eating and active lifestyles, empowering them to make informed decisions about fitness and nutrition.

Urban farming

Harlem Grown

Operates local urban farms, increases access to and knowledge of healthy food, and provides garden-based development programs to local under-served students.

Recycling & composting

Lower East Side Ecology Center

Works toward a more sustainable New York City by providing community-based recycling and composting programs.

Providing the ability for our guests to choose which charity they would like a percentage of their purchase to go towards is in complete alignment with our mission.

In our stores

Sustainability starts at the store, too.

Most of this page lives in a bottle. Some of it lives in a room — in how we build our locations and what we hand across the counter.

Built from Baltic Birch

Our standard store design uses Baltic Birch plywood, an abundant, fast-growing species chosen as a more mindful building material.

Rooted in the block

Rather than treating every location the same, we honor the natural structure and history of each space, so a store reads as part of the community and not another storefront.

Straws worth keeping

We encourage reusable straws across our locations and offer stainless-steel straws for guests who want an alternative to single-use. Our straws are made from recyclable materials.

Bowls and napkins

We're incorporating compostable materials into our packaging, including oatmeal bowls made from recycled material and brown paper napkins made from 100% recyclable material.

Held to it

Our juice is backed by nutritionists from the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL, and trusted by 50+ pro sports teams. The people who audit what goes into an athlete tend to ask how it got there, too.

Better is a journey. And we're just getting started.

There's no single solution to creating a more sustainable food system. So we're focused on continuous improvement — new ways to reduce waste, smarter sourcing decisions, rethought packaging, and a positive impact in the communities we serve.

Every ingredient. Every bottle. Every location. Every choice.
